Renault Kwid 2026 Launched at Rs 4.53 Lakh

Renault has rung in the second half of 2026 by refreshing its entry-level hatchback. The 2026 Renault Kwid went on sale in India on July 3, 2026, priced from Rs 4.53 lakh to Rs 5.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) — and interestingly, it undercuts the outgoing car on most variants despite the newer badge. Here's everything a prospective buyer needs to know before walking into a Renault showroom.
Price List: What Does the 2026 Kwid Cost?
Renault has trimmed the Kwid's variant line-up down to just two trims — Evolution and Climber — each offered with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. The previously available entry-spec Authentic and mid-spec Techno trims have been dropped.
| Variant | 5-speed Manual | 5-speed AMT |
| Evolution | Rs 4.53 lakh | Rs 4.90 lakh |
| Climber | Rs 5.15 lakh | Rs 5.61 lakh |
(All prices ex-showroom, Delhi)
A retrofitted CNG kit is also available on manual variants for an additional Rs 70,450, backed by a 3-year/1-lakh km warranty (whichever comes first), fitted at authorised Renault workshops.
Is the new Kwid cheaper or costlier than before? A bit of both. Because the affordable Authentic trim has been axed, the car's starting price is technically about Rs 22,000 higher than the old base variant. However, like-for-like, the Evolution and Climber trims are actually cheaper by up to Rs 14,000 and Rs 32,000 respectively compared to their outgoing equivalents — effectively passing on a discount to buyers of the two trims that remain.
What's Changed on the Outside?
Don't expect a dramatic makeover — this is very much a mid-life nip-tuck rather than a ground-up redesign. The changes include:
- New 3D Renault badges on the grille and tailgate
- Redesigned dual-tone plastic wheel covers on the same 14-inch steel wheels
- A fresh font for the "Kwid" lettering on the tailgate, now finished in silver
- The Climber trim gets a contrast black roof and white ORVMs as standard fitment
Everything else — the eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs, halogen headlamps, bumpers, and the boxy, SUV-inspired stance the Kwid has been known for since 2015 — carries over unchanged.
Cabin Updates: A Steering Wheel Borrowed From the Kiger
Inside, the biggest visual change is a new three-spoke steering wheel lifted from the Renault Kiger, complete with steering-mounted audio controls. Beyond that, the cabin is largely familiar:
- 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Semi-digital instrument cluster with a multi-information display (MID)
- Manual air-conditioning
- All four power windows
- Black fabric seat upholstery with yellow accents
It's a sensible, no-nonsense layout rather than a tech showcase, which is fitting for a car competing at this price point.
Engine & Performance: No Changes Under the Hood
The 2026 Kwid continues with the tried-and-tested 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 69hp and 92.5Nm of torque. Transmission choices remain a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) — there's no CVT or torque-converter automatic on offer, which is typical for this segment.
Fuel efficiency figures haven't changed either, since the powertrain is a straight carryover. The outgoing Kwid's ARAI-claimed mileage sits in the 21.5–22.5 kmpl range depending on the variant and gearbox, with real-world figures for most owners falling somewhere between 16–20 kmpl depending on driving conditions, AC usage, and load.
Safety Kit
Safety provisions are trim-dependent:
- Evolution: dual (driver + passenger) airbags
- Climber: 6 airbags
- Common to both: rear parking camera with sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-start assist (AMT variants only), keyless entry with central locking, ABS with EBD, and seatbelt reminders
Worth noting for safety-conscious buyers: the Kwid platform is dated by today's standards, and Renault has yet to put this facelifted version through a fresh Bharat NCAP crash test. Buyers cross-shopping purely on safety scores should factor this in and check the latest independent crash-test data before deciding.
Dimensions
| Parameter | Measurement |
| Length | 3,731mm |
| Width | 1,579mm |
| Height | 1,474mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,422mm |
| Ground clearance | 184mm |
| Boot space | 279 litres |
The dimensions are identical to the pre-facelift car, so practicality — reasonably spacious for four, decent ground clearance for Indian roads, and a usable boot — remains unchanged.
Colour Options
The 2026 Kwid is offered in four shades: Fiery Red, Zanskar Blue, Ice Cool White, and Moonlight Silver. As mentioned, the Climber trim adds a contrasting black roof and white outside mirrors as standard.
How Does It Compare to Rivals?
The Kwid continues to slot into the fiercely price-sensitive entry hatchback segment, going up against:
| Model | Starting Price (ex-showroom) |
| Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 | ~Rs 3.50 lakh |
| Maruti Suzuki S-Presso | ~Rs 3.70 lakh |
| Renault Kwid 2026 | Rs 4.53 lakh |
| Tata Tiago | ~Rs 4.70 lakh |
The Kwid sits at a slight price premium over the segment's two Maruti rivals, which is where it has always positioned itself — trading a slightly higher entry price for a bigger touchscreen, a rear camera as standard higher up the range, and its distinctive, chunkier SUV-styled body compared to the more traditional hatchback silhouettes of the Alto K10 and S-Presso.
Renault's Bigger Plans for India
The Kwid update isn't happening in isolation. Renault India has signalled a much more aggressive product cadence for the market, outlining plans for 12 product actions over the next 18 months, four of which are expected before the end of 2026. Renault India's CEO indicated buyers can expect the brand to keep the range feeling fresh going forward — whether through limited editions, design refreshes, new features, or entirely new models — rather than letting cars sit unchanged for years at a stretch. This tracks with Renault's recent pattern in India, where it has already refreshed several models in quick succession this year, and had earlier marked the Kwid's tenth year in India with a limited-run Anniversary Edition based on the erstwhile Techno trim.
Since its original launch back in 2015, the Kwid has been a significant volume driver for Renault in India, with cumulative sales past the 4.5-lakh-unit mark — making this update an important one for the brand even if the changes themselves are modest.
Expert Verdict: Should You Buy the 2026 Renault Kwid?
The good:
- Genuinely more affordable than before on the Evolution and Climber trims
- Distinctive, SUV-like design still looks fresher than most segment rivals
- Segment-favourable features: 8-inch touchscreen, rear camera, TPMS, up to 6 airbags on the top trim
- CNG retrofit option adds running-cost flexibility without needing a factory CNG variant
The not-so-good:
- This is a mild cosmetic update, not a substantial overhaul — the platform, engine, and most cabin features are over a decade old in concept
- No factory-fitted CNG option; only a dealer-retrofit kit
- Crash safety credentials haven't been refreshed alongside the cosmetic changes
- Variant simplification means buyers wanting a genuinely stripped-down, cheapest-possible Kwid no longer have that option
For someone who wants a compact first car with a bit of visual flair, decent ground clearance for broken roads, and modern-enough connectivity features without stretching the budget too far, the 2026 Kwid remains a reasonably compelling package. But if outright safety ratings or the absolute lowest price in the segment matter more to you, it's worth cross-checking the Alto K10, S-Presso, and Tiago before signing on the dotted line.
