Honda Cars India has officially launched the much-anticipated New Honda City Sport, a special edition of the popular City sedan. Designed to appeal to young urban buyers who crave sportier aesthetics without compromising comfort or reliability, the City Sport delivers a compelling blend of aggressive styling, refined performance, and premium features.
Priced at ₹14.88 lakh (ex-showroom), the City Sport is positioned as a stylish alternative in the midsize sedan segment, directly taking on the likes of Volkswagen Virtus GT, Hyundai Verna Turbo, and Skoda Slavia.
Aggressive, Head-Turning Design
From the outside, the Honda City Sport makes its intent clear. The design enhancements over the standard model are both subtle and striking:
- A gloss-black honeycomb grille dominates the front, flanked by sleek full-LED headlamps.
- Blacked-out door mirrors, a shark-fin antenna, and a gloss-black boot spoiler add a premium, performance-inspired touch.
- The multi-spoke dark grey alloy wheels complete the sport-oriented profile, while the exclusive "Sport" badging adds character to the rear.
The model is offered in three striking colour options: Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, and Meteoroid Gray Metallic, each enhancing its bold personality.
Refined Power Under the Hood
Powering the Honda City Sport is the proven 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine, which produces 121 PS and 145 Nm of peak torque. While it does not carry a turbocharger like some of its rivals, the engine offers smooth and linear performance that suits both city traffic and open highway runs.
Mated exclusively to a 7-speed CVT gearbox with paddle shifters, the City Sport allows drivers to enjoy a more engaging experience. Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 18.4 km/l, making it not only sporty but also economical for daily use. The engine is also E20 fuel compatible, reflecting Honda’s forward-thinking approach to sustainability.
Cabin Drenched in Sporty Elegance
Inside, the City Sport features a full-black interior theme, a first for the current City lineup. The sporty atmosphere is heightened by:
- Red contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and gear shifter
- A dark red dashboard accent running across the width
- Leatherette upholstery that adds to the premium feel
- Ambient lighting with seven colour modes, customizable to suit your driving mood
Technology and comfort remain top-tier with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start, voice commands, and automatic climate control.
Safety Gets a Major Upgrade
One of the standout features of the City Sport is the inclusion of Honda’s advanced ADAS suite, Honda Sensing. This includes:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Collision Mitigation Braking System
- Lane Keep Assist
- Road Departure Mitigation
- Auto High Beam Assist
- Lead Car Departure Alert
In addition, the car is equipped with six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist, Hill Start Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), rear parking camera, and the brand’s exclusive LaneWatch Camera, offering a wide-angle view of the car's blind spot.
Verdict: Style, Safety, and Smooth Drive in One Package
The Honda City Sport is more than just a cosmetic upgrade—it’s a statement car for those who want to stand out. By integrating a blacked-out aesthetic with sporty interiors and bolstering it with safety tech generally reserved for higher segments, Honda has struck a fine balance between style, performance, and practicality.
Key Highlights:
- Stunning exterior upgrades with black sporty touches
- Engaging CVT performance with paddle shifters
- Premium interiors and ambient lighting
- Full suite of ADAS for modern driving needs
- What Could Have Been Better:
- No turbocharged engine option for thrill-seekers
- No manual transmission offering for purists
The Honda City Sport brings a bold, energetic twist to a well-loved sedan, making it more desirable for a new generation of car buyers. For those who prioritize sporty looks, modern tech, and real-world reliability without diving into higher price brackets, the City Sport is a package hard to ignore.
