Maruti Suzuki’s Upcoming Electric SUV: Leaked Images & Specs

1. What’s cooking: Background & launch plans

Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever full electric SUV, initially previewed as the eVX concept at Auto Expo 2023, is set for production under the name e Vitara starting in spring 2025 from its Gujarat facility. Developed jointly with Toyota (and Daihatsu), it's being built on the dedicated Heartect‑e skateboard platform, designed to support both FWD and AWD layouts. Production volumes will initially focus on India, with sizeable exports planned to Europe and Japan.

2. Leaked design cues & imagery

Spy shots reveal a production-ready vehicle retaining much of the concept’s styling:

  • LED projector headlights, full-width tail lamps, upright fascia with closed grille
  • Pillar-mounted rear door handles, flared wheel arches, roof spoiler
  • The visits show a robust cabin featuring a twin‑screen display (digital cluster + infotainment), rotary drive‑mode selector, multifunction two‑spoke steering wheel, vertical AC vents and floating centre console.

3. Powertrain & battery configurations

Powertrain options will include:

  • 49 kWh LFP battery with approx. 106 kW (142 bhp) front-motor setup
  • 61 kWh LFP battery with 128 kW (172 bhp), available with AllGrip‑e AWD using a rear motor outputting up to 135 kW and 300 Nm torque.

Range is anticipated at around 400 km (250 miles) WLTP for the smaller pack, and up to 500–550 km with the larger pack under Indian conditions.

4. Pricing & positioning

While official pricing is yet to be announced, the e Vitara is expected to be competitively positioned, possibly starting around ₹23–25 lakh in India (~£30‑35 K in the UK). It will compete with vehicles like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Harrier EV, MG ZS EV, and Volvo EX30 in international markets.

5. Production scale & challenges

Maruti initially aimed to build over 26,000 units by September 2025, but recent constraints due to global rare‑earth magnet shortages have scaled back targets to around 8,000 units by that date. The company’s broader EV roadmap includes 6 new models by 2030, with aggressive investment of ₹7,000 crore in production, EV platforms, and quality improvements.

✅ Conclusion

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, evolved from the eVX concept, marks a turning point for India’s largest automaker. With modern styling, dual‑battery options, AWD capability, and a platform jointly developed with Toyota, it brings strong technical credentials to the burgeoning Indian and global EV markets. Although supply‑chain disruptions may constrain its early scale, the SUV is poised to offer value-driven performance, solid range, and multiple drive modes—positioning it as a serious rival in the fast-growing B‑segment electric SUV category.
