Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.

Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

Triumph Tracker 400: A Flat-Track Look With the Strongest Legs in the 400 Family Triumph's Tracker 400 borrows its stance from flat-track racing bikes rather than from a typical streetfighter or café racer, and that shows up most in the raised bars, the slightly longer wheelbase and the dual-purpose tyre fitment of 110/70-17 up front and 150/60-17 at the rear. Underneath the styling, though, this is the quickest-accelerating engine tune in the whole 349cc Triumph line sold in India today: the published specification data gives 39.45 bhp at 8,750rpm and 32 Nm at 7,500rpm, matched only by the Thruxton 400, and good for a claimed top speed of 154kmph. At Rs 2.43 lakh ex-showroom it costs a little more than the standard Speed 400 for that extra output and the different cycle parts that come with it. The chassis hardware reads like a proper mid-weight roadster rather than a dressed-up commuter: 43mm upside-down Big Piston forks with 140mm of travel up front, a preload-adjustable gas monoshock at the rear with 130mm of travel, a 300mm front disc gripped by a 4-piston caliper, a 230mm rear disc, and dual-channel ABS as standard. Kerb weight comes in at 183kg and seat height at 805mm, both squarely in line with its siblings, while a 13-litre tank with a 2.6-litre reserve and ARAI-claimed efficiency of around 27.7 kmpl keep it practical for daily use rather than just weekend outings. Ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, LED lighting and a semi-digital cluster round out an equipment list that matches the Speed 400 feature for feature, just wrapped in a different, more rugged-looking body. On the road the slightly taller bars and the flat-track-inspired geometry make it feel a touch more flickable through city lane-splitting than the Speed 400, while the stronger mid-range pull makes short work of overtakes on the highway. It is aimed at a rider who likes the retro-roadster idea but wants visual separation from the now-common Speed 400, and who is cross-shopping against the Scrambler 400 X from the same showroom floor, Royal Enfield's Guerrilla 450, or a Harley-Davidson X440 for that same sense of an American or flat-track-flavoured attitude at an approachable price. For someone who rides mostly in the city through the week and wants a bit more punch for the odd weekend highway run, the Tracker 400's combination of styling and the segment's strongest numbers makes a reasonable case for paying the small premium over the base Speed 400.
