Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.

Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

Modern classic bikes live and die on whether they can look old and ride new at the same time, and the Triumph Speed Twin 1200 manages that balancing act better than most. Its 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin, a SOHC unit with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch, produces 105 PS at 7,750 rpm and 112 Nm of torque at a low 4,250 rpm, which means the bike feels strong from just above idle and never needs to be screamed at to make quick progress. That torque-heavy delivery suits the way most owners will actually ride it, rolling on the throttle out of a corner or overtaking on a highway without dropping down two gears first. Kerb weight sits at 216 kg and the seat height is a manageable 805mm, so despite the big twin under the tank, the Speed Twin does not feel intimidating to swing a leg over or to paddle around a parking lot. The 14.5-litre tank and a claimed 19.60 kmpl keep it usable for longer rides without constant fuel stops. Where the range gets interesting is in how differently the variants are equipped. The standard and RS models use 43mm upside-down Marzocchi forks with 120mm of travel up front, with the RS gaining Öhlins units at the rear in place of the standard twin Marzocchi shocks, and both get twin 320mm front discs with four-piston calipers. The range-topping TFC goes further still, with fully Öhlins suspension at both ends and Brembo Stylema M4.30 radial calipers up front, the kind of componentry you would expect to find on a proper sports bike rather than a classically styled roadster. In India, the Speed Twin 1200 spans a wide price band, from Rs 13.84 lakh for the standard bike up to Rs 20.99 lakh for the TFC, with the RS and a Cafe Racer Edition filling the space in between. Colour options range from understated Sapphire Black and Aluminium Silver to the more distinctive Aluminium Silver and Competition Green and Obsidian Gold schemes, giving buyers real choice in how loud they want their classic bike to look. This is a motorcycle for someone who has probably ridden a Bonneville or a similar modern classic before and wants more performance without giving up the silhouette, round headlamp, twin clocks and all. Against rivals like the Kawasaki Z900RS, which plays in a similar retro-performance space, or the Ducati Scrambler at a different price point, the Speed Twin's case is the depth of its range, letting a buyer pick anywhere from a comfortable road bike to a near track-ready special without changing the basic recipe. For Indian riders doing long weekend highway runs as much as city commutes, the low-down torque and manageable weight make it a far easier machine to live with day to day than its retro looks might suggest.
