Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.

Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

Triumph Scrambler 900: A Bigger, Heavier, More Finished Take on the Scrambler Idea If the Scrambler 400 twins are Triumph's entry point into dirt-styled retro motorcycling, the Scrambler 900 is what that idea looks like once you add displacement, weight and a fair bit more polish, priced between Rs 10.25 lakh and Rs 11.05 lakh ex-showroom for the standard and Icon Edition variants. The engine is a 900cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin with a 4-valve head, producing a claimed 64.1 bhp (roughly 65 PS) at 7,250 rpm and 80 Nm of torque arriving early at just 3,250 rpm, run through a 5-speed gearbox with chain final drive. That torque figure, delivered so low in the rev range, is the whole character of this motorcycle — it does not need to be worked hard to move with authority, which matters when you are threading through traffic on a bike that tips the scales at a claimed 223kg. Suspension is simpler than the newer 400-series bikes but set up for a similar brief: 41mm front forks with cartridge damping giving 120mm of travel, and twin rear shocks with adjustable preload also offering 120mm, enough to deal with a rough road without turning the bike into a dedicated off-roader. Ground clearance of 157.5mm is modest for something wearing scrambler styling, which is a fair reminder that this is a road bike dressed in off-road language rather than a machine built to be ridden hard off the tarmac. Braking comes from a 310mm front disc with a 4-piston caliper and a 255mm rear disc with a 2-piston caliper, both covered by dual-channel ABS, and the claimed top speed sits at 175 kmph. A 12-litre tank combined with an ARAI-claimed figure of around 23 kmpl gives a usable but not especially long range between fuel stops, so this is more a bike for scenic weekend routes than back-to-back day touring. Seat height is listed at 790mm, low enough that most riders will get both feet flat, which helps offset the weight at a standstill. The two variants on offer let a buyer choose between the standard specification and the dressier Icon Edition, both built on the same mechanical package. At this price the Scrambler 900 is really competing on image and brand as much as outright ability, sitting above anything Royal Enfield builds, including the Himalayan 450 and Scram 440, and in the same general conversation as Ducati's scrambler-styled models for buyers who want a premium twin-cylinder machine that looks the part without the running costs of a superbike. For someone already set on the Triumph badge but not ready for the bigger Bonneville-based machines, this is the natural step up from the 400cc scramblers in the same family.
