Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.

Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

Triumph Tiger 900: An Adventure Triple Built For Both Highway And Trail Most adventure bikes in this price bracket run a twin-cylinder engine, which is partly what makes the Tiger 900 interesting to anyone cross-shopping the segment. Its 888cc inline-three engine makes 108 PS at 9,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 6,850 rpm, giving it a pull and an exhaust note that feels distinct from the usual adventure-bike soundtrack, closer to the free-revving character Triumph's triples are known for on the road side of its range. That personality carries over well to mixed riding, equally happy cruising at highway speed as it is picking through slower technical sections. Across the GT, Alpine Edition, Desert Edition and Rally PRO variants, the Tiger 900 splits roughly into road-biased and off-road-biased pairs. The GT, which weighs 219 kg, runs 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels along with Marzocchi suspension offering 180mm of front travel through 45mm upside-down forks and 170mm at the rear, both manually adjustable for preload, rebound and compression. The Rally PRO leans harder into off-road capability, with Showa 45mm inverted forks offering a longer 240mm of travel, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels for better off-road traction, and a slightly higher kerb weight of 228 kg to account for the extra protection and ground clearance that serious trail riding demands. Braking on the GT comes from a 320mm double-disc front setup using Brembo Stylema four-piston calipers, backed by a 255mm single-piston rear disc, strong enough stopping power for a loaded touring bike carrying a rider, luggage and sometimes a passenger. A seat height adjustable between 820mm and 840mm, and a generous 20-litre tank good for a claimed 21.27 kmpl, point to a bike built with multi-day touring firmly in mind. Priced from Rs 14.40 lakh for the GT up to Rs 16.15 lakh for the Rally PRO, and offered in an unusually wide spread of colours from Snowdonia White to Matt Khaki Green and Matt Phantom Black combinations, the Tiger 900 asks a buyer to pick their variant based on how much of their riding actually happens off tarmac. The Alpine Edition and GT suit someone doing long highway runs with the occasional unpaved detour, while the Desert Edition and Rally PRO are built for riders who genuinely plan to take dirt tracks, river crossings and hill sections seriously. Against rivals such as the BMW F 900 GS, KTM 890 Adventure and Ducati Multistrada V2, the Tiger 900's case rests on that triple-cylinder engine and a range deep enough to cover both ends of the adventure-touring spectrum without switching to an entirely different Triumph model, while the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 remains the budget-friendly alternative for riders not yet ready to spend in this bracket.
