As India’s premium SUV market continues to grow in 2025, two well-known 7-seater contenders—Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Fortuner—are drawing attention from buyers looking for performance, comfort, and value. While the Fortuner remains a rugged favorite, the new-generation Kodiaq is set to bring a fresh, premium appeal. Here's how they stack up on price and features.
Price Comparison
The Toyota Fortuner recently underwent a price hike in January 2025. The base petrol 4x2 manual now starts at ₹33.78 lakh, while the top-end Legender 4x4 automatic is priced at ₹51.59 lakh (ex-showroom). This wide price range allows for multiple choices, but pushes the top variant into luxury territory.
The new Skoda Kodiaq, expected to launch in May 2025, is likely to be priced between ₹45 lakh and ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom). This places it close to the Fortuner’s top trims but with a more premium positioning, aimed at buyers looking for advanced features and European styling.

Engine and Performance
The Fortuner offers two engine options:
- 2.7L Petrol – 164 hp, 245 Nm torque
- 2.8L Diesel – 200 hp, 510 Nm torque
These are available with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission and offer both 4x2 and 4x4 variants, making it a strong off-road performer.
The Kodiaq will come with a single 2.0L turbo-petrol engine producing 188 hp and 320 Nm torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic. While it may not match the Fortuner in off-road toughness, it promises a smoother and more refined drive, ideal for city and highway use.
Size and Practicality
The Fortuner is larger in overall dimensions, measuring 4,795 mm in length and 1,835 mm in height. The Kodiaq, slightly shorter at 4,697 mm in length and 1,676 mm in height, offers a longer wheelbase at 2,791 mm, which translates to better cabin space.
Cargo capacity is more flexible in the Kodiaq—270 liters with all seats up, expandable to 2,065 liters with seats folded. The Fortuner provides 296 liters, but lacks the folding flexibility of its European rival.
Features and Safety
The Fortuner includes basics like automatic climate control, ventilated seats, and key safety features such as seven airbags, traction control, hill assist, and ABS with EBD.
In comparison, the Kodiaq is expected to raise the bar with a 13-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, head-up display, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), making it a tech-forward choice in this segment.
If you're looking for a tough, proven SUV with off-road capabilities, the Toyota Fortuner remains a solid choice. However, if modern features, refined design, and urban comfort are your priority, the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq might offer more value. In this price face-off, the decision ultimately comes down to lifestyle and driving needs.
