Get ready, SUV lovers! Two exciting midsize SUVs are coming to India in 2025 – the Maruti Suzuki Escudo and the Tata Sierra. Both these vehicles promise great design, modern features, and powerful performance. If you’re planning to buy an SUV in 2025, these two should definitely be on your watchlist.
1. Maruti Suzuki Escudo – Global SUV Coming to India
The Maruti Escudo, also known as the Suzuki Grand Vitara in global markets, is expected to launch in India in 2025. Maruti Suzuki aims to bring this SUV to compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate.
Key Highlights:
- Engine Options: The India-spec Escudo may come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, similar to the one in the Grand Vitara and Brezza. It could also offer a strong hybrid version with high fuel efficiency.
- Transmission: Expected with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.
- Design: Sporty front grille, LED headlamps, and a bold, rugged SUV look. It will be slightly more premium than the Brezza.
- Interior Features: 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof (in top variants).
- Safety: Six airbags, ABS with EBD, 360-degree camera, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features in higher variants.
- Expected Price: ₹12 lakh to ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom)
- Launch Timeline: Mid to late 2025
The Maruti Escudo will be built on Suzuki’s Global C platform and is expected to be offered through the Nexa dealership network. It aims to attract urban buyers looking for a stylish and reliable SUV with good mileage and modern features.
2. Tata Sierra – The Icon Returns in a New Electric Avatar
The Tata Sierra is a legendary nameplate that’s making a comeback — but this time as a modern electric SUV. Tata Motors showcased the concept at Auto Expo and has confirmed it will hit the Indian market by late 2025.
Key Highlights:
- Powertrain: The production model will offer EV (electric) and ICE (petrol) versions. The EV version will likely use Tata’s Gen 2 EV platform with a range of around 450–500 km on a single charge.
- Design: Futuristic yet nostalgic — the new Sierra has a unique glasshouse design, clean body lines, and LED lighting. It pays tribute to the original Sierra from the 1990s while being modern.
- Interior Features: Digital touchscreen dashboard, connected car tech, powered seats, ambient lighting, and eco-friendly materials.
- Safety: 5-star Global NCAP safety expected, multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and Level 2 ADAS features.
- Expected Price: ₹22 lakh to ₹28 lakh (for the EV); lower for petrol version
- Launch Timeline: End of 2025
Tata’s Sierra EV will be a premium SUV offering for buyers looking for futuristic design and electric performance. It is expected to compete with vehicles like the Mahindra BE.05, Hyundai Creta EV, and MG ZS EV.
Which One Should You Pick?
If you want a trusted brand with hybrid mileage and value, the Maruti Escudo is a solid pick. It's expected to be more affordable and great for city and highway drives.
If you're ready to go electric and want a futuristic, premium SUV, the Tata Sierra EV will be a bold and eco-friendly choice. It will also attract fans of Tata’s safety and design.
