Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.

Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

KTM 85 SX: Built for the Motocross Track, Not the Road The 85 SX is KTM's small-wheel motocross machine, the step after a junior rider has outgrown a 65cc pit bike and is ready to race on a full-size track layout. It runs an 84.9cc liquid-cooled two-stroke single tuned for 16.4PS at 11,500rpm and 14Nm at 8,500rpm, numbers that look modest on paper but feel very different once you remember the whole bike weighs around 75kg dry. Two-stroke power delivery on a bike this light is sharp and immediate rather than gentle, which is exactly why KTM's junior ladder uses it as the bridge into real motocross riding. The chassis gear is proper race equipment scaled down, not toy-grade. A WP XACT AER air-spring fork up front and a WP XACT monoshock at the rear give roughly 305mm of travel, with Formula hydraulic brakes on 240mm front and 220mm rear discs doing the stopping. Seat height is 865mm, which still asks a growing rider to manage real bike height alongside real power delivery, so this is not the first motorcycle a child sits on — it's the one they graduate to once they're racing seriously. The fuel tank holds 5.2 litres, enough for a day of practice motos rather than long rides, because long rides are not what this machine is for. That's the point worth being direct about: the 85 SX has no headlight, no tail lamp, no instrument cluster, and by every published account it is not road legal in India. It cannot be registered at an RTO and has no business on a public road. It is sold through KTM's dealer network exactly the way the bigger SX-F motocrossers are, priced at Rs 6.69 lakh ex-showroom, and bought almost exclusively by families invested in junior motocross competition — amateur national meets, KTM's own junior cups, and club-level racing where this bike's class exists. It comes in one specification, in KTM's orange, because there's no commuter trim to speak of. Within KTM's own range it sits at the very bottom of the SX motocross ladder, below the 150 SX and well below the 250 SX-F and 450 SX-F four-strokes that a junior rider would move up to as they get stronger and faster. Service and parts support for it runs through the same off-road-focused dealers who handle KTM's racing lineup, not general two-wheeler service centres, so anyone buying one should already be plugged into the local motocross scene rather than expecting neighbourhood workshop support. There's also a practical ownership point worth flagging for Indian buyers: because this is a competition-only product, it falls outside the usual insurance, registration and resale patterns of a road motorcycle. Spares, tyres and consumables move through KTM's off-road parts channel rather than its general two-wheeler stock, and most owners budget for that separately from a normal bike's running costs. Anyone cross-shopping this against a cheaper 65cc or 50cc pit bike should understand the 85 SX is a genuine step up in both speed and the skill needed to control it — it's not a bigger toy, it's a smaller version of the same race machine the 125/150 SX models are.
