Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.

₹

Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

This is not a street bike, and it should not be cross-shopped like one. Whatever category it is listed under, the KTM 50 SX is a genuine motocross machine built for racing on dirt, sold in India at Rs 4.75 lakh for the single STD variant in Electronic Orange. It has no headlight, no number plate mount, no road-legal equipment of any kind. It is the junior entry point into KTM's SX motocross range, the same family of bikes that eventually leads up to the full-size machines professional riders race on. The engine is a tiny 49.9cc single-cylinder two-stroke, making 5.4 PS at 11,500 rpm and 5.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm, which sounds modest until you see what it is pushing: a motorcycle with a kerb weight of just 45kg, dry weight 42.5kg. Power goes through an automatic transmission with a centrifugal clutch, so there is no clutch lever or gear shifter to learn, which matters because this bike is built for riders who are still learning to control a motorcycle, not for anyone who already knows how to ride one on the road. Everything about the chassis is scaled down to match: a 653mm seat height, 12-inch front and 10-inch rear spoked wheels on tube-type tyres, and real motocross suspension, a WP Xact 35mm upside-down fork with 200.6mm of travel up front and a WP Xact monoshock with 190.5mm of travel at the rear. That amount of suspension travel on a bike this small and light is the clearest sign of what it is built for: absorbing motocross-track jumps and braking bumps, not potholes on a city road. In India, this bike is bought almost exclusively by parents setting their children up in motocross racing or practice, usually through a KTM dealer that also runs or knows of a local dirt track, rather than by anyone cross-shopping it against road-going minibikes. There is not much more honest detail to add beyond the specification sheet itself. It is a purpose-built kids' race bike, priced and equipped exactly as that description suggests, and this description is kept shorter than the road bikes above for that reason, rather than padded out with claims that cannot be checked.
