Tata Motors is gearing up to make a significant impact in India's electric vehicle (EV) market with the anticipated launch of the Tata Safari EV in 2025. This move aligns with the company’s broader strategy to promote sustainable mobility and adopt cutting-edge electric technology. The Safari EV aims to merge the muscular design of its ICE counterpart with the benefits of clean, electric power, creating an exciting option for Indian SUV lovers.
The Tata Safari EV is expected to maintain the bold, upright silhouette of the regular Safari, while incorporating design elements unique to EVs. These include a closed-off front grille, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and blue accents that signify its electric identity. Built on Tata's advanced Acti.EV platform, which underpins the upcoming Harrier EV, the Safari EV is likely to share several mechanical and technological components with its sibling.
Though official specifications are yet to be confirmed, automotive insiders suggest that the Safari EV will offer both single-motor and dual-motor variants. The dual-motor setup could deliver up to 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, potentially enabling the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 8 seconds. This performance, combined with an all-wheel-drive configuration, will make it a capable companion for both city drives and weekend getaways.
In terms of range, expectations are high. The Safari EV is anticipated to offer a real-world range of between 500 to 600 kilometers on a single charge, depending on the variant and driving conditions. This positions it among the most practical electric SUVs for Indian roads, where charging infrastructure is still developing. Tata is also expected to equip the Safari EV with fast-charging capabilities that could recharge up to 80% of the battery in just 50 minutes.
Inside the cabin, the Safari EV will continue to offer the spaciousness and comfort that the Safari nameplate is known for. A three-row seating layout will make it a family-friendly choice. The SUV is expected to feature a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats in both front and rear rows, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control. The materials and finish are likely to be upgraded for a more premium, tech-forward experience.
Modern connectivity features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad, and a 10-speaker JBL audio system will cater to the needs of the tech-savvy urban consumer. Tata Motors is expected to position the Safari EV as a feature-rich vehicle that competes not just on range and performance, but also on cabin luxury and technology.
Safety has become a key priority for Indian consumers, and Tata Motors is rising to the occasion. The Safari EV is expected to come loaded with safety features including multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, and a 360-degree camera. On top of that, the Safari EV is likely to be equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), featuring lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and more.
Tata Motors is also expected to introduce special editions of the Safari EV. One such variant, the Stealth Edition, was recently showcased with a matte black finish, blacked-out exterior detailing, and exclusive interior trims. This edition is aimed at buyers who prefer a more stylish and aggressive look for their EV.
The Tata Safari EV is expected to be priced between ₹26 lakh to ₹32 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a premium electric SUV that still offers strong value. The official launch is expected in August 2025, with bookings likely to open a few months earlier.
With a solid blend of performance, design, range, and features, the Tata Safari EV is poised to be a major contender in India’s electric SUV segment. It represents Tata’s vision for the future of mobility—sustainable, intelligent, and aspirational.
