Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.
Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

Tata Sierra EV: A Brand New Name Returns as an Electric SUV
The Sierra EV, launched on 30 June 2026, revives a name that older Indian car buyers will remember fondly, but everything underneath it is new. Tata has priced the Sierra EV from Rs 18.79 lakh to Rs 26.49 lakh, ex-showroom, spread across a wide spread of 17 variants grouped under Pure, Pure S, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered A trims, and buyers can choose between two battery packs. The smaller 63 kWh pack produces 253 bhp and 315 Nm, while the larger 75 kWh pack, offered with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup that Tata badges as QWD, makes 313 bhp and 504 Nm. Tata claims a range of up to 535 km on the 63 kWh pack and up to 665 km on the 75 kWh pack under the MIDC test cycle, with more conservative real-world estimates in the 440 to 530 km range depending on variant.
Performance is a genuine highlight on the range-topping dual-motor version, which Tata quotes at 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds with its boost mode engaged, a figure that would have been unthinkable for an Indian-brand SUV at this price only a few years ago. Since this is a newly launched model, independent long-term reviews and real-world range data from Indian owners are still limited, so buyers evaluating it against more established EVs should treat the claimed range figures as a starting point rather than a guarantee, particularly in Indian summer heat with air conditioning running continuously.
Inside, the Sierra EV leans heavily into technology as a selling point. A triple-screen setup, which Tata calls the Horizon View dashboard, includes a dedicated 12.3-inch display for the front passenger, alongside a 540-degree camera system with a transparent-view mode intended to help with tight parking and low-speed manoeuvring. A panoramic sunroof measuring 1,525 mm by 925 mm is among the largest fitted to any Tata product. The car also supports vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle charging, letting it power external devices or even top up another EV, and Tata is offering a Battery-as-a-Service option for buyers who want to lower the upfront purchase price by paying separately for the battery over time.
Safety provisions are strong on paper: six airbags are standard across the range, and Tata has fitted a Level-2 ADAS suite with 22 individual features. Tata also backs the battery with a 15-year warranty described as lifetime coverage, which should ease concerns about long-term degradation and replacement costs, historically one of the bigger hesitations Indian buyers have had about EVs.
Given how recently it has launched, the Sierra EV is best suited to early adopters who are comfortable buying a electric SUV without years of ownership data behind it, and who value cabin technology, range on the larger battery, and the reassurance of a long battery warranty. Buyers who want a long and proven ownership track record, or who are nervous about EV range in real Indian traffic conditions, may prefer to wait for more owner feedback before committing.
Tata has priced the Sierra EV to sit across a fairly wide band, which effectively lets a buyer choose how much EV they want: a Pure or Pure S variant on the smaller battery for someone mainly doing city and short-highway runs, or an Empowered A on the larger dual-motor pack for a buyer who wants both the range and the straight-line performance of the QWD setup. The Battery-as-a-Service option is worth serious consideration for first-time EV buyers specifically because it lowers the initial purchase price, though it does mean an ongoing subscription cost that needs to be weighed against simply buying the battery outright and keeping monthly outgoings lower over the long run.
Charging infrastructure in India has improved steadily, but it still varies a great deal by city and highway corridor, so prospective buyers should map out charging options along their typical routes before assuming the claimed range figures will translate directly into their own driving pattern. With the car this new to market, Tata's handling of software updates and any early teething issues over the coming months will likely matter as much to owner satisfaction as the hardware specifications do.
