"Avinya X" is a name used inconsistently across the motoring press, and that inconsistency is worth knowing before anything else. Autocar India uses "Avinya X SUV" to describe a second body style in the Avinya family, essentially an SUV version arriving after the sportback-shaped Avinya. One aggregator listing, separately, uses "Avinya X" for what it calls a distinct EV concept that could reach production in 2026. Tata Motors own website does not use the name at all, and the aggregator listings and news coverage of the base Avinya do not refer to an "X" variant either. The name is real in media use, but its meaning is not settled, and Tata has not confirmed it.

Treating it as the SUV-bodied member of the Avinya range, as Autocar's reporting frames it, here is what that means for timing and price. Autocar's own estimate puts the first Avinya, the sportback, on sale by late 2026, with the SUV body following afterward on no stated date. The aggregator listings put the wider Avinya family around January 2027, and are inconsistent even with each other, with one claiming a 2026 confirmation and another listing February 2027 as tentative. No source ties a specific date to the SUV body alone.

Specifications are described only in general terms and attributed to Tata's Gen 3 electric platform, described by Autocar India and the aggregator listings as a from-scratch architecture aimed at ranges above 500km. But reporting from June and July 2026 suggests Tata may instead be sourcing a platform through its JLR partnership's Freelander programme, which would be a meaningfully different underpinning. Dimensions, battery size and motor output are, in every source checked, explicitly left for Tata to announce closer to launch.

On price, Autocar India and the aggregator listings all estimate the base Avinya around Rs 35-40 lakh, while one listing's figure for all-wheel-drive, long-range variants runs to Rs 45-60 lakh. Rs 45 lakh would sit at the low end of that higher range, though again no figure is tied specifically to an "X" model.

The design first appeared as a concept in 2022 and has already slipped past several assumed launch windows. Given that history, a buyer should treat any date or price attached to the Avinya X as a rough placeholder rather than something to plan a purchase around, and should not assume the name itself will survive unchanged to production.
