A Vietnamese Wave Hits Indian Shores
At a time when India’s EV revolution is shifting gears, VinFast has quietly but confidently pulled into the fast lane. The Vietnamese automaker, best known for its sleek designs and aggressive global expansion, has unveiled its compact electric SUV—the VinFast VF6 2025—at the Bharat Mobility Expo. But this isn’t just another auto launch; it’s a signal flare from a brand that wants to become a serious player on Indian roads.
With global EV giants eyeing India as the next big market, VinFast’s arrival feels like a cinematic twist—unexpected, but deeply intriguing.
Design That Speaks a Global Language
The VF6 stands at 4.24 metres in length, perfectly tailored for India’s compact SUV sweet spot. Visually, it brings an international flair—signature LED light bars, flush door handles, roof-integrated rails, and sharp saber-tooth DRLs. From the front, it’s unmistakably modern. From the side, it blends seamlessly into urban India. It’s as if the VF6 was born on Vietnamese roads, but raised with Indian aspirations.
Inside, the VF6 surprises with a minimalist yet tech-rich cabin. A 12.9-inch central touchscreen dominates the dash. There’s no instrument cluster in sight; instead, a heads-up display projects essential data onto the windshield. Premium touches like dual-tone brown-black upholstery, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 360-degree camera system reinforce that this EV means business.
Performance That Understands the Indian Pulse
Offered in two variants—Eco and Plus—the VF6 houses a 59.6 kWh battery. The Eco churns out 174 bhp and 250 Nm, while the Plus delivers a punchier 201 bhp and 310 Nm. Both boast an impressive WLTP range of around 400 km, making it a viable option for daily commuters and weekend wanderers alike.
With Level 2 ADAS features onboard, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, VinFast is clearly targeting safety-conscious Indian buyers without compromising on tech flair.
Make in India, For India
Perhaps the biggest vote of confidence in the VF6 is VinFast’s $500 million commitment to set up a manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Slated to go operational by mid-2025, the plant will initially produce 50,000 units annually, with plans to scale up to 150,000. This isn’t a token gesture—it’s a full-blown “Make in India” pledge that could redefine how Indian EV buyers perceive foreign entrants.
The company also hopes to negotiate a temporary reduction in import duties while the factory ramps up—mirroring Tesla’s earlier approach. If successful, this could give early VF6 adopters a more attractive price tag.
Diwali 2025: A Launch Timed with Emotion
VinFast plans to begin bookings for the VF6 by June 2025, with deliveries expected before Diwali. Priced expectedly between ₹30 to ₹35 lakh (ex-showroom), it will take on rivals like the MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3, and the upcoming Tata Curvv EV.
But VinFast is not just launching a car—it’s attempting to introduce a new way of thinking. Cleaner energy, global design, and local trust-building. And Diwali, a festival of new beginnings, might just be the perfect time for Indian families to welcome it home.
Verdict: More Than a Debut—It’s a Declaration
In a market crowded with promises, the VinFast VF6 brings presence, practicality, and a promise to stay. For Indian car lovers who crave something beyond badges and fuel stats, the VF6 offers a glimpse into the future—one where global EVs are not just imported, but embedded into our daily drives.
VinFast isn’t just entering India. It’s trying to belong.
