KIA Carens Premium Opt Specifications
On-road price of the KIA Carens
Ex-showroom is not what you pay. Pick your state and trim to see the road tax, insurance and charges on top — the tax alone differs by more than a lakh between states on the same car.
Pre-filled at about 3.5% of ex-showroom, which is typical for a first-year comprehensive policy. Your actual quote depends on cover, add-ons and the insurer — change it if you have a real quote.

Where it sits in the range
It is the entry point into the range, so the equipment list is the shortest of the 3 trims. Buyers who want the KIA Carens mainly for its size and running costs usually start here and compare the step up to the next trim before deciding.
This is a manual trim. It is the cheaper of the two gearboxes and, in most ranges, the more efficient one on paper.
Before you book
The price above is ex-showroom. Registration, insurance and dealer-level charges are extra, and they vary by state and by dealer, so ask for the full on-road quotation in writing. KIA Carens questions, answered
Tap a question to see the answer
- 1.5L Diesel (Manual/Automatic): Delivers around 12–14 km/l in heavy city traffic and stretches up to 17–20 km/l on highways if driven with a light foot.
- 1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol: Expects about 10–12 km/l in the city and 14–15 km/l on highways.
- 1.5L Turbo Petrol: Offers around 9–11 km/l in bumper-to-city traffic, going up to 14 km/l on open roads.
Yes, much better than most of its rivals. Unlike traditional compact 7-seaters where the third row is strictly for kids, the Carens features a longer wheelbase (2,780 mm). Adults up to 5'8" to 5'10" can sit comfortably in the third row for moderate trips due to dedicated AC vents, cup holders, charging ports, and recline-adjustable seats.
The Carens has a decent unladen ground clearance, but when fully loaded with 7 adults and luggage, the soft rear suspension tends to compress significantly. You have to be cautious over large, sharp speed breakers to avoid bottoming out.
The lower-to-mid trims (like Premium and Prestige) offer tremendous value because Kia provides 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and rear parking sensors as standard safety features across the lineup. However, if you want creature comforts like ventilated seats, a sunroof, or the bigger infotainment screen, you will need to look at higher trims (Prestige Plus or Luxury Plus).
Based on long-term user feedback, the most common pain points include:
- Stiff or sluggish initial pickup in the base naturally aspirated petrol engine when the car is full.
- Headlight throw/illumination on stock setups is often considered weak for dark highway driving.
- Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration alerts can pop up frequently if the car is strictly driven for short city commutes without regular highway runs.
Kia markets it as a "Recreational Vehicle (RV)". In practice, it has the boxy, practical space management and sliding second-row rows of an MPV, combined with the ground clearance, front styling, and aggressive cladding of an SUV.
Very effective. Unlike cars that just place blower vents on the floor, the Carens features roof-mounted, diffused AC vents for both the second and third rows, with a dedicated blower speed control knob. This cools down the entire cabin quickly even during peak summer months.
